What

This app is created to show just how simple cooking can be with easy-to-follow recipes as well as step by step videos

How

How do you work on your creativity and confidence if you don’t know how to cook or where to start.

Why

The pandemic has altered consumer eating habits. People are now cooking more. This habit has driven in-home cooks' creativity and confidence. However, that is if you know how to cook.

Problem Statement

David is a student on the swim team who needs to make healthy meals for himself because he wants a healthy diet to improve his swim time.

Understanding the User

In our search, we found that teenagers, as well as use adults, have an interest in cooking their own meals. However, due to living in a time where everything can be ordered online or come pre-made. No one has taken the time to teach them how to cook. The fear of not knowing how to cook something is why they stay out of the kitchen.

Ideation

Creating an ideation exercise to see what ideas that I can come up with. To address gaps identified in the competitive audit. With a focus on ‘How-do” and “Terms”. Keeping in mind that the user won't know how to cook

Digital wireframes

After drafting some paper wireframes. I created the initial designs for the “Simply Cook” app. It focuses on the “how-to” part of cooking and keeping it visually simple.

Mockup

Based on insight from usability studies. I applied design changes like having big images along with text to help the user pick what they are looking for. For example, baking tips or how-to videos.

By offering different substitutions for users who can't or don't want some ingredients. By offering different types of food. Allows the user to still make the meal they want. Without giving up what they want.

What I Learned

I learned that the most confusing thing about cooking is the terms and what they mean. Having videos showing the steps along the way is a much better explanation.

Also, added alternative options to the shopping list for those with whom I have dietary restrictions. So that they can pick options that will work with the dish that is planning on cooking

What I added to the Hi-fidelity prototype

  • Added alternative options to substitute in the meal

  • Edit down the shopping list

  • Added how-to video to the “how-to” selection.

Conclusion

Next steps having users share images/videos of their meals to others where they can share their tips, tricks, and meals they created.

Anyone who likes to eat can soon learn to cook well
